Abstract

In this study on anti-sovereignty, an aspect of anti-Bosnian ideology, Rusmir Mahmutćehajić presents anti-sovereignty as an essential component of the various anti-Bosnian ideologies and the complementary political programs based on them. These ideologies have always contained within themselves the potential for the crime of genocide. The proof of this is that undeniable crimes of genocide have actually been committed and condemned in court. As a historical and contemporary fact, Bosnian society is and always has been plural. That is the main reason it has been so consistently undermined and denied by the radical ideologies of ethnonationalism. Actively and conscientiously opposing this is, in the author's view, a key prerequisite for bringing relations between the countries of Southeastern Europe into balance. The analysis given in this paper on anti-sovereignty as a constituent element of the anti-Bosnian ideologies pursued by Bosnia's neighbors is intended as a contribution to understanding the current cultural and political assumptions that structure relations between the countries of Southeastern Europe and overdetermine their European future. The epistemological framework of this work draws on political philosophy, the cultural and political history of Bosnia, and a critique of the various forms of ideological and ethnonationalist programs that contest Bosnia's rights as a sovereign state.
